                               Taking it to the Banke

November 15th, 2010----Portsmouth, NH

We at Victorian love banks, no not ones we keep money in, the great ones that do more for people than the money ones will ever do.
I am talking about our local food banks and of course, Strawberry Banke
Museum in Portsmouth New Hampshire. Every year we try
our best to give back to our community as best as we can. All of our scrap steel is recycled and the money we get is given to our local
food bank.

We also donate as much as we can to our favorite museum, Strawberry Bank Museum in Portsmouth, NH.

This year we took a 1928 Atlantic Queen cook stove and refurbished it, converted it to gas, and installed it in the Shapiro house at the museum.
The old stove that was there is in great need of repair and was
not the true style of stove that the Shapiro family would have had in this house
at the time. (in fact the stove is a true Shapiro family stove donated to the museum by the Shapiro family but was not
the true stove to this house.)
The old stove was more of a small apartment stove or one from a much smaller house. But not to worry, this stove is in storage and someday will
be restored as well.

The new stove has an up to date gas valve and is safe to operate, The top burners get to 500 degrees and the oven holds at 325 degrees.
A sure winner if you are cooking all the yummy cookies and bread
that Mrs. Shapiro is famous for!  So, the next time you are in Portsmouth,
stop by and taste some of the samples and enjoy a day at the Banke!
